Artists.. you will never know what they were thinking about while creating their masterpieces. Maybe he was trying to portray Maria with her child but didn't manage to follow all the spoken and unspoken rules and now we have this chef-d'oeuvre :)

Is the woman in blue related to the blue boy, or perhaps to Picasso's blue period?

Indigo was a precious dye and the source of this vivid blue cloth. At the time these paintings were created (except for Picasso) the color was still something of a luxury and therefore of interest to painters. In an otherwise smoky, gritty existence - these colors would have stood out quite a lot, I think.

I've seen this masterpiece and it truly is amazing! Maybe he used blue color to highlight her lyrical mood or maybe she was just wearing a blue dress.

I love artists of Renaissance! The favourite works of mine are assumption of the Virgin and paintings of Venus.

I admire French Impressionists! I have visited Musee d"Orsay where is a huge number of paintings by Monet, Manet, Renoir, Gaugin, Degas and others. But the brightest emotions I got when I have visited Musee de l'Orangerie where I saw Claude Monet's water lilies. I think this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!
