About

Husband, father, dog person, recreational runner, loves to travel, IT pro. Fascinated by old and new, from Oracle to blockchain and everything in between.

Facebook also started with good intentions. They wanted to connect people. They probably didn’t realize that, so many years later, young people become addicted to their daily portion of dopamine. They couldn’t know that people get a false picture of society. Young people in particular are faced with fear, depression or loneliness. And their self-image goes down too (Instagram scores even worse in this area). And then I ask myself the question: with initiatives like this, where you can buy reputation points, aren’t we creating the devil himself? Innocent looking 'likes' already have such a huge impact on society. Replace those 'likes' with the word 'money' and you get a very dangerous combination. So I think everything starts with the right mindset. Do you like to blog? Do you like to share your thoughts? Do you like to connect with other people? Then initiatives like this can be useful and an amazing place to develop yourself. On the other hand, if you act like a purely capitalist being, if you want to enrich yourself as quickly as possible, these places will only make you unhappy. Because of the simple fact that it will never be enough.

To me, the ability to buy reputation is the antithesis of the decentralization movement. If any amount of reputation can be earned through financial means then it opens the gate for positive feedback loops towards centralization. That is if reputation has any effect on financial rewards or distribution. If it's just a cute number to show off, then by all means let people spend their money....
